Last interview with Richard Hickox on 22nd November 2008
The British Library in London hosted a two-day Conference on 22 - 23 November, 2008 called Let Beauty Awake. This was an exploration of poetry in the life and works of Elgar and Vaughan Williams. The guest of honour for the weekend was Richard Hickox who was interviewed by Stephen Connock in front of a large and appreciate audience. Richard was his usual engaging, open and informative self. He looked so much younger than his sixty years and was full of optimism for the future. Little did we know that this was the last time we would see him as he died in Swansea the very next day.

The interview is a wonderful memorial to Richard and is reproduced here in full. It is to be included in a forthcoming book of the Conference, also called Let Beauty Awake, to be published by the Elgar and Vaughan Williams Societies, edited by Julian Rushton.
